Hey i just reinstalled FL over the weekend, thought i'd comeback for some nostalgic genociding. Not played for 2 or 3 years and have since upgraded my system ( was here as LOOTER-DELTA). I seem to have a problem staying connected for more than 5 or 10 minutes which as you can imagine is pretty tricky to get anything done, was hoping to get my Eagle and make my way to LOOTOPIA I'm just wanting to know if there are any compatibilty issues with the server or anti-cheat software? I'm running: Intel Quad 2.4 (x4) Vista 64 - DX10 - WM11 4gig ram 768mb8800GTX 300N 8mb wireless connection I'm guessing it doesn't like quads or vista? I usually play Guild Wars daily without any problems Any help would be appreciated ;D

I have not heard of any problems with Quad, but I have been told FL and Vista don't get along well After all, you have to expect some incompatibility, both programs ARE Microsoft ;D

More than likely its Vista related, although I blame Vista for everything including global warming ;D Other issues with Vista: DirectX 10 which is standard with Vista doesnt support Directplay. Antivirus software under the Vista Platform ( particularly Nortons ) have caused problems with the MP functionality of FL. Make sure you have the latest service pack for Vista, you never know Uncle Bills cronies may have actually done something useful with thier time at work and corrected these things ... dont hold your breath tho Try turning the firewall off ... see if its that , same with any antivirus progs. running .. I have read some worst case senarios where only a full uninstall of antivirus progs helped .. Scrap vista ... use XP <drastic I know but .. > Find the coder who made Vista and perform some sort of black magic ritual with him/her as the chosen sacrifice ;D it wont fix the issue your having but will make you feel better lol or .. create a multi boot OS with an XP partion just for games .. The odd thing with your stated probllem is that you actually manage to log on and play for a short period before losing connection. may even be an IPv6 issue. You could try unbinding this protocol and see if that helps.

After 10-15 mins i dc even though i'm pinging at about 50ms. The time lapse between dc's then seems to reduce each time to the point where it stops me connecting altogether. I've tried alsorts messing with the settings, tbh my system copes with the game no problem and i get no lag, card is set at a respectable 100fps. I've tried with all the settings set to minimum, sound off, firewall and updates off, downloaded MS codec, am all uptodate with SP1 etc Good point Destroyed lol although i've been away a while i've always kept my eye out for reports of FL2. Even back in the day compared to similar games there is so much potential to expand on the FL format to make an awesome game. Microsoft really are missing out on something by not making one tbh i want to keep my computer "clean" so adding XP isn't really an option. I still have my old XP PC but i've promised my broither he can have it once i've bought my new Terantula keyboard i may just have to install it on there and use that for a bit. I know vista has some problems, especially with WM11, but XP was the same when it came out and still doesn't achieve all it promised all those years back

You should consider dual boot system. Using XP to run FL would make it all a lot easier...

Oh another thing i forgot to mention. The game plays fine in single player, its just maintaining a connection online, which made me ask about the anti cheat software. Tried again with a clean boot but didn't help. Oh and i have a fixed IP and my wireless connection is faster than wired so shouldn't be that, and like i say, i play guild wars online without any connection problems and when i am able to play FL i'm getting pings of 50 ish
I'm not really convinced its a vista vs FL issue rather vista vs anti cheat or the server? I'll see if i can find another server to try or make one

you can easy test that...sent you a PM...
btw...its vista and freelancer MP...they cant seem to get along...it has nothing to do with server nor anti cheat...trust me, you are not the first vista user with fl mp probs...

I'd not be tempted to use that as a "rule of thumb" to isolate a problem, I dont recall seeing complaints that Guild wars did not work under Vista ...in fact I remember reading it works fine, and NCsoft are still supporting and updating it.
on the other hand I have seen many many complaints regarding FL not working in MP under vista....and MS are no longer supporting it or updating it ...
