The larger freighters on EU carry cargo pods when cargo was purchased, without any cargo on board... pods will be removed automatically and cargo space is lost to these missing pods. Cargo pods can be destroyed, once another player shoots them out... loot will drop which cant be retrieved by the freighter who lost it because his pod has gone missing. A bonus is also paid to the attacker and he can ofcourse loot (some) the dropped cargo and run away with it for a profit, or stay and fight to try and kill the freighter entirely and get paid even more... the attacker would then ofcourse also run the risk of getting killed himself and in doing so lose not only the freshly looted cargo, but also be fined a death penalty which will be awarded to the freighter pilot. Here's some imagery taken in game during pod testing: Buying less than a quarter load of cargo results in a single pod on undock for the train. Pods are player destructible and loot will drop as a result, a credit bonus will also be awarded to the attacker. Once pods are lost, cargo hold shrinks showing the missing pods.
