If you need to fix your Freelancer

Bugs, glitches, irrelevant nonsense, viruses, system crashes and relatives all take their toll on your PC and every now and again the unthinkable happens!
DONT PANIC.
Follow our idiots guide to re-installing your Freelancer and never worry again about losing your online Characters.
A good idea might be to Print out your Freelancer ID at the earliest opportunity -- you will need it if anything goes wrong.
My idiots guide to a complete re-installation.
1) Deactivate ALL Mods.
2) Go to Program Files>>Microsoft Games>>Freelancer (or wherever you have installed your game files) and find a small file entitled myflaccountid
3) Print out the Account ID number that this file displays. (You may not need it but better safe than sorry)
4) From the same file activate the Uninstall icon and remove the game files from your computer - keeping your screenshots and savegames unless you really want to get rid of them?
5) Manually delete the entire game folder as the uninstall leaves possibly corrupted files on your computer.
6) Install your game from your CD-Rom.
7) Reactivate Deathmatch Mod.
8) All being well the Mod should launch without a hitch. If you get an error message telling you that the Freelancer.ini file was missing you need to uninstall and re-install the FLMM - including downloading a new copy of DM mod - just to be sure.
9) Start the game as normal and select Multi-Player
10) The game will generate a new account ID for use on the net. With any luck it should be the same as your old ID - if not - simply delete and replace with your OLD account ID and hit CREATE
11) Take a deep breath...relax..connect to your usual server and away you go..good as new.
12) Enjoy
That is all...
