Hey guys and gals.
Most of you will know me under the name "MiniStryke" or "~XHawkEyeX~" on the server.
Down to business:
Recently the wireless adapter i use to connect to the internet has become monumentally slow. Whether it is indeed the adapter or a problem with connectivity on my computer i still don't know but in any case, until i have fixed this problem, you won't see me very often on the server. Hell, it takes ages just to load each page on this forum.
I'm currently running Vista, hard to get FL to work online but i got round all those problems. Included installing ESET (Anti-Virus that does work with FL if anyone else is having a problem with it) along with 2 patches and disabling IPv6. Whether any of this is the problem i don't know but it's unlikely.
Playing with this connection speed is impossible as enemies are impossible to shoot and other functions take way too long to work. I have ordered a new adapter that is supposed to be reliable, should arrive sometime next week and fingers crossed it fixes the problem. If not, my only other option is to completely restore my system, wiping everything off the Hard-Drive. FL included. This means that i will potentially have to go through all the crap of getting it to work again so it will take a lot longer before i can play again.
Bottom line: I won't be playing with you guys for a while, how long? Again, no idea. If any of you have any ideas, they will be greatly appreciated but i will need to know soon.
Thanks and good hunting.
-Hawk out.

Good luck, I hope all works out well for you. If you do happen to have to format and re-install remember to make note of your freelancer multi-player id code. When you re-install FreeLancer, you will be given the opportunity to use that code rather than the random code the game will generate. If you use your old code, all of your multi-player characters will still be available. If you do not use the old code, those characters will be gone. I have never used Vista (and will resist ever doing so ) so I do not know how to go about finding your account number under Vista. In XP: one would call up my computer, go to the drive or partition on which you have your games, open the microsoft games folder, open the FreeLancer folder, open the EXE folder, and double click on the icon labeled "myflaccountid". The screen which is displayed is printable, or you can write the code down Again, good luck

Good evening,
I doubt that your wireless connection problems are caused by Vista only.
I suggest to install a dual boot system (Windows XP and Windows Vista) if you want to play Freelancer, that´s what I did and I don´t have problems to run old games like Freelancer.
Btw.: What SyntaxError posted regarding disableing MS Defender, user account management and Vista firewall is a very dangerous option.
You might be able to get Freelancer running at Vista, but your PC is open for all malware, viruses, hacks and other crap afterwards and that is not an option for serious PC users.

Thanks NoS, almost forgot about that, thanks for reminding me . I will make a note of it. Jorg: Thanks, if it comes to it, a Dual Boot is definitely an option. However as i said, the main reason i can't play is because of the speed of my connection. The router it's connected to downstairs is fine, no problems there. The wireless adapter i'm using is supposed to be a bit unreliable anyway and so i'm assuming it's that. Hence why i ordered a new adapter. It never used to be slow, i always had a ping of roughly between anything from 30-100. Now i get around 200 or so and i did a speed test which told me that i was running at 0.06 Mbps (roughly 60 kbps).
